Shelduck weighed anchor in Hillsborough Bay at 11.00, arrived at Clifton at 13.30 and got a space on the pontoon at Anchorage Yacht Club. John was immediately involved in helping a Swedish family whose chartered yacht had dragged on the weather side of the pontoon onto their son’s yacht in a 30 knot squall. Chartered yachts often have anchors that are too small for the conditions. The wind has rarely dropped below 20 knots, day or night, since we have been in the Caribbean. We had met the two sons in St. Georges where they had sailed to from their landfall in Barbados having sailed from Gotenburg. Peace was restored when both boats joined us on the lee side after one of the sons showed great seamanship in parting the two anchored yachts from one another without damage to either.

Next day, Thursday the 2nd we walked the Main Street, had a light lunch and went swimming. That main street and its buildings was our vision of the real Caribbean and we met so many nice people on it. Union Island is,so far, one of our favourite places, so beautiful and unusual from the sea. The Yacht Club never refused anyone on it’s pontoon, we were like sardines in a can. There were no eggs available in Grenada or in the supermarket in Clifton but one farmer selling on the street had them as well as beautiful fruit.

That evening we had a pleasant meal at Bougainvilla so our only setback in Clifton was that the ATM at the bank had no funds over two days.
