The Greatest Enemy (and our Menus)

Chafe is the greatest enemy!  It affects everything and in all sorts of ways.  Sailing constantly for 21 days, 24/7 is the equivalent of several years of normal cruising! Even a touch of a spinnaker on the furled genoa can wear a hole in that sail when it happens day after day. Metal on metal fixings will also wear and thin the metal fittings themselves.  We have now acquired blocks for the ends of each spinnaker pole which we are going to use to hold out our twin headsails – after 5 days of sailing from Portugal we had worn chunks out of our ropes and the blocks will prevent this.

Anne (with help from Gabby) has been working hard planning our menus and working out how much we need to buy of what.  It’s surprising how much food 4 people need for 21 days plus another 9 (in case we take longer than we hope due to rig or sail or engine failure).
