We've just left
Rarotonga. Spent a few quiet days (mostly) in the Avatui harbour. Unfortunately
it has been cloudy and raining just about the whole time we've been here, but we
managed to get around and explore some of the island by bus. So nice to be in a
spot where they speak English and drive on the left side of the road again -
seems like a long time! The islanders are super friendly, and there is a laid
back yet efficient atmosphere here. Most of the last three days we've been
tucked in the corner of the harbour next to Son of the Sun (friends from Shelter
Bay and Fakarava) but had to leave the night before last at about half four in
the morning when the surge picked up and snapped first our bowline, and then a
few hours later our stern spring. Enough was enough, so we moved and tied up
next to a delightful Japanese guy/boat who in turn was tied up alongside one of
the freighters - much better spot.
Stocked up on food
and drink, we're off in the direction of Tonga to meet Kirsten and Mark when
they arrive a week today. We've got 860miles to cover in total. The wind looks
pretty good at the moment for the whole trip, and we're currently making 7.5kts
with full main and the computer kite, so if we can keep this up we should be
there in plenty of time.
