So we've finally
made it back to some kind of civilization - there are at least two shops here,
and enough traffic to get run over if you don't pay attention - not things we're
used to anymore.
Moorea is a volcanic
island with a reef that goes pretty much all the way around (as for most/all of
the Society Islands) and has a stunning skyline. We've been on a pretty long
hike up into the middle of the island - turned out to be a bit longer than we'd
originally planned. We got a bit lost, but we were still in better spirits than
the guy we met who'd lost his 10yr old son (he was found again shortly after we
came across the search party). Stunning views back into the two main bays on
Moorea (Cooks and Opanahu) and very tasty passion fruit picked off the path on
the way up were a couple of the highlights.
We've cought up
briefly with some friends on Long White Cloud in the next door bay, and heading
over there to join them (and a few other boats) in a great looking anchorage at
the mouth of the bay.
