We thought the skyline of Nuku Hiva was
stunning, but Ua Po is even better. We anchored in Hakahau Bay which
is pretty small, but fortunately we arrived in time to find plenty of
space.
Mid morning we spotted a man on a bodyboard paddling
(very) slowly towards us. Turns out he's a retired english teacher who's been
living here for a few years and hunts down unsuspecting yachts who come into the
bay. He was very friendly, took us for a drive around the north end of the
island - some stunning views - showed us around his small house and introduced
us to the fruit man. The following morning the fruitman came down to the dock
with a basket of mangoes. So we're fully fully stocked up on fruit, and
struggling to keep up with eating enough to avoid throwing any of it away. We're
definitely clocking up our '5 a day' - probably closer to
20!
We've also been working hard on finishing cleaning
through the boat and reorganising the food, and topping up with water again so
we can maximise our time in the
Tuamotos...
