Daily Update 16 May 2009 - Blue, blue, blue

overground) in the last 24 hours. The sailing has been a story of light
winds and big spinnakers. We used the asymmetric yesterday pretty much all day
and into the night until the guy snapped early evening. Managed to retrieve it
fine, but decided to put up the #3 jib, head up and make some more ground south
overnight. The asymmetric went up again at first light this morning with a new
guy - but was taken down again and swapped for the smaller fractional symmetric
(kiddie kite) when I noticed the top section of the mast bending in the waves
more than I'd like...
But we're still
making good progress, despite the downsizing (it's still a pretty big kite) -
currently making 7kts in about 8-10kts of breeze just behind the beam, and doing
over 8kts overground with the helpful current.
It's been hot and
sunny - lots of blue - skies, sea and Paul's surgical gloves (clearly
missing Andres!).
Apart from the
sailing and sleeping we've been keeping ourselves busy with the fishing lines -
they managed to catch eachother pretty badly yesterday, so we've been gradually
taking it in turns to do 'fishing line therapy' - we're hoping to have both
lines back in action by the end of today (not that it'll do much good going by
our current record - the fish are still pretty safe!). Today has also been a
popular day for washing - Colin dragging himself along behind the boat - truly
impressive hauling himself back onboard whilst we were doing 6-7kts, and the
ladies (Jemima and Tuck) taking the more controlled bucket on the afterdeck
approach(!).
The duogen is back
in action and working well with the new bits after I managed to find the short
yesterday - all good.
More light winds are
forecast, but we're hoping to continue cheating our way along with our spinnaker
wardrobe for the next few days.
