We're back on board after a month in Europe and Israel. We've sorted out most of the maintenance issues which have been dogging us since the Bahamas and are ready to be off. In the morning - weather permitting - we depart for the European mainland, likely destination Lagos in southern Portugal. But first, a quick stop on the easternmost Azorean island of Santa Maria, which means we're back on the wake of Columbus; he stopped at Santa Maria on his first return journey. Half his men went ashore to say mass and were thrown in jail because they were in the employ of the Spanish crown.

We've thoroughly enjoyed the Azores although the weather was quite grim when we first arrived in Horta. The people here are very friendly, the food's good and  there are plenty of places to explore on land. If anyone wants some tips about staying here with a yacht, or leaving a yacht for a while, drop me a line and I'll give you all the details.

The photos are from Gdansk, Poland last month.
