Sailing guru Jimmy Cornell wrote in his book, World Cruising Routes, that yachts on the trade wind route across the Atlantic should expect at least one day of calms. Well, we had one day yesterday and I hope there isn't going to be a repeat. We wallowed through the hours of darkness barely making any progress. At 1000 UTC on the cruiser net I heard yachts north and south of our position report much the same conditions. A few yachts well east of us all mentioned 15 to 20 knots of easterlies, so I assumed this breeze would eventually come our way. It has. By midday we were sailing again and making around 5 knots. The sky is filling in with cumulus cloud, the breeze is steady and hopefully it will stay with us for the last 700 miles.
