America or bust

After a very pleasant week in Bermuda waiting for suitable weather we have set sail again. The satellite tracker is back on board and should be viewable at http://live.adventuretracking.com/atlanticcup2011

Our destination is Newport RI and if all goes well we shall be there by the weekend. Bermuda was an excellent stopover and we have to thank Lyall, Nick and Andy of the World Cruising Club who worked long hours and with great patience to make it so. Duty free diesel, water top-ups, weather briefings, juggling the dock space, rum tasting and more, none would have happened so easily without them.  Bermuda will also be remembered as the place we met up with cruising friends Karel and Phil on Tehani-li, John and Chris on Tonic, and also met another Israeli yacht and her crew, Tisha II from Ashkelon.

We left St George's  in a fresh northerly but it has since died and will hopefully be replaced by winds from the west and south west to push us north to Newport. In the meantime we are motor-sailing and finally giving the batteries a good top-up. At some point we have to cross the Gulf Stream for the first time; a mid-ocean current flowing up the US east coast. Pick the wrong spot and it seriously slows you down.
