Vegetables

There was little wind overnight. Conditions were sufficiently mild to allow sleeping with full sail set (in
approximately two hour chunks). It's rarely a good idea to do this unless the conditions are obviously settled.  Ghosting along during the night occurred, giving a bit more forward progress. This morning the wind changed direction and strength and this is giving a great sail due east currently.

For the last couple of days there has been more commercial vessel traffic.  We are all taking the same route just below the ice limit.  Neil and I experienced the same thing last year.  It's looking as if it will be at least three days
before we're east of the ice and can turn north.

A remark from Neil, amongst many pieces of advice, was to turn and inspect the vegetables daily.  The vegetables are stored on racks in a locker in the forecabin where he usually sleeps. I had not fully realised that the reason
vegetables have been keeping well on the boat in the past is down to him quietly doing this in previous years - for
sensible food management - but also I suspect to avoid the risk of rotten veg creating a smell in his cabin.

The trip this year has been colder than last. This, shopping at Sobey's supermarkets in Halifax (where there is a great
range of fresh veg and it can be had either ripe or to be ripened), and perhaps my new steps in veg management have kept plenty of produce fresh.

Tastes change afloat, my theory being that this probably relates to the same thing that causes sea sickness: motion-
induced changes in the brain.  Grub that would hardly last a day at home can appear unappetising, and vice versa.  Last year we sailed for a month with a packet of chocolate biscuits and neither of us fancied them at any time. I think this is likely to be the closest thing to pregnancy that I'm likely to experience - where appetite changes even when nausea is not present.  I certainly enjoyed a bowl of raw cauliflower covered with balsamic dressing with lunch.
