Final Preparations

We're now in the final throes of preparation and are looking forward to
getting going. Sarah, Steve and James have gone shopping for
perishables amidst much debate about which keeps better of leeks and
carrots and whether bananas are a complete liability or merely unlikely
to keep for the whole journey.

James spent much of yesterday in the water checking our anodes
and scrubbing the bottom. The marina is clean enough so that
spending an hour in the water doesn't appear to be a major health
hazard. At last night's party he was drumming up business from other
crews and it looks like he's got at least one commission for boot-tops
cleaning and anode checking.

There were 2 parties last night. Some of the Aussies near us
arranged one for just our pontoon. James went round trying to get
anybody gullible enough to drink some retsina (I think - the
labels had come off) that had been lurking in the bilges since the last
millenium. I think he got rid of 2 bottles. Then it was on to the very
posh Club Real Nautico for drinks and tapas, farewell fireworks. Our
handicap has been noticed and we were greeted as 'Bandits of
Hebe' (Bandits is gold slang for somebody with a dodgily poor
handicap). We'll just seeing how accurate it ends up!

Till tomorrow
