Sunday July 4 2010  Happy Independence Day!
Arrived in Tyrrel Bay, Carriacou at around 2pm and will have to go on the bus to Hillsborough first thing in the morning to clear in with customs and immigration and port authority.
Anchored next to a motor boat called Alehleuia Bar it looked as though it was closed up for the hurricane season, however it got up and jumping (a good Caribbean _expression_) about 2 hours later so we upped anchor and found another spot. Got bitten to bits by mosquitoes in the process, out come the mozzie nets again!
Monday went in to Hillsborough a lovely town, the people are so friendly and helpful.
Went to the museum run by a woman who's father played ceremonial drums and violin at special occasions like boat launching, weddings or festivals.  He has 98 grandchildren, 12 children with his first wife 6 children with his second wife and 12 children with his third wife. There's a boat launching ceremony on Sunday if we're still here we want to go and see it. Apparently all the women dress in ceremonial costumes and dance.  There used to be about seven tribes here in Carriacou and each tribe had it's ceremonial drum, the women would only dance to the sound of their own tribes drum, .some were made of goat skin and had a higher tone and some were made of sheep skin which gave a lower tone.
They also used to grow cotton here and she remembers picking the cotton when she was a little girl, they would hand gin it, which means they would remove the seeds, later they had machinery that would gin the cotton.  She has a pillow that she made from cotton balls many years ago and each year she washes the cotton and it's as good as new.
Had a conch roti for lunch at Sharon and Annes Bar, Hillsborough with a British couple we met at the museum, very good. The best one is still the roti shack in St Johns, Antigua.
