Ready for he Start....

Freespirit

All the talking is over....the boat is packed and ready to go.  Free Spirit looks tidy for the first time since we arrived on Monday. Our position is 28 07.734N 15 25.504 W as we lie at our berth in Las Palmas. Last footsteps on land have just been taken for around 18 days.

The crew are waiting for me to send this diary entry and we will be casting off.  Everyone is quietly excited and looking forward to the gun.  I have not been so relaxed for 4 months as my job list is down to zero for the first time since I saw Free Spirit in Lymington!  We are as well prepared as we can possibly be - (so I guess the one key thing we have forgotten will come as a big surprise!)  The crew has bonded really well.  Wattie has done a sterling job on the provisions (at least we think he has) and Nigel's job as entertainment officer now takes on a more salty hue.

As far as the weather is concerned, judging by the weather maps I think most of you reading this would rather be here. You have one of the worst storms for many years. We have bright sunshine, a light following breeze, good forecasts for the trades and absolutely no tropical disturbances anywhere in the Atlantic.  As the weather briefing said, they looked really hard for some bad news but could not find any....dangerous talk.

I think it is time to go sailing......the whole crew send their very best wishes to all our followers and lots of love to the ones that should have it.
