Tenerife
We're still in San Miguel and will probably stay until we
leave for Madeira now. It's a bit like Groundhog day; sun, sea, sangria,
shining shiny things (Chris), sciatica and sitting at the computer working
my marketing majic (me). Actually, we did have a little rain yesterday -
not much, but it must have come from the South-East as it deposited half of the
Sahara Desert over the boat, Chris is not happy! He's up there now,
polishing away and chatting to someone on the next boat who sounds
remarkably like Borat.
One reason we're staying is that we've met a few new friends
who live here. It's nice to have someone else to talk to (Chris
and I had a conversation yesterday about which was our least favourite colour
jellybaby, so you can see why), and they've also got some good local
contacts which have been really useful. They've directed us to a brilliant
dentist, very cheap car hire which will pay for itself in what we'll save
by stocking-up at the hypermarket out of town, and a man who is currently
trying to fix our main laptop which either has a virus, or a buggered hard drive
or possibly both. The software I use to update our web-site is on there so
I can't do anything until we get it back (hence the reason the blog's back on
here). Part of me is relieved 'cos I hate doing it as I'm not too au fait
with the software and it's being driving me nuts, but Chris and I had a great
idea last night re chartering the boat so I just want to crack on and get
it on there.
The other reason we're staying is my sciatica.
The daily cocktail of muscle relaxants and anti-inflammatories is
helping (I can walk - yippee! but not too far - boo!), but if I overdo it I sure
know about it the next day. A gentle sail in a lightish breeze (and Chris
doing the fenders and warps) might be ok, but with the wind acceleration zones
around these islands you never know when you'll get hit by sudden huge gusts in
which case I've got no choice but to help, running around on a heeling
deck, grinding winches and pulling ropes.
So, if any friends want to escape the UK and join us this
month bobbing gently in the marina, get a last minute flight to Tenerife,
we're just ten minutes from the airport. We promise we won't talk about
jellybabies, although we might ask you to bring a couple of packets (and Tetley
teabags)!
