Why does it take so long for legs to tan?  Even Chris's pasty chest is tanning quicker than my sparrow legs.  It's absolutely scorchio today with not even a puff of wind, the hottest day we've had so far.  In fact I've chickened out and come down into the saloon despite having some serious leg tanning to attend to.

We're keeping nice and busy getting the boat up to scratch.  I've just been part way up the mast in the bosun's chair to remove some thread wrapped round the lazy bag line - pretty brave for me as I'm petrified of heights.  I think I was more worried about Chris having 'a bit of a laugh' and winching me right to the top.

We've been cooking some really nice meals on board which is a challenge as the supermarkets aren't up to much here.  They're geared towards tourists so there's an abundance of booze, fags and chocolate, but most of the fruit and veg wouldn't make it onto the reduced-price shelf back in the UK.  Wine is cheaper than fresh milk - it seems that UHT is the norm here as it was in Portugal.  And I don't know what they feed their chickens but you need a sledgehammer to crack the shells.  They do stock Tetley teabags though, at a price that almost makes you want to drink coffee, and we still buy the occasional Daily Mail when life just seems too good and we want to depress ourselves with the state of affairs back home.

We eat breakfast and lunch in the sun, but the evenings are a bit chilly to eat outside.  The upside of that is the temperatures are nice and comfortable for sleeping.  We did relax our austerity measures one night and went out and had some mediocre tapas served by a waiter with very ripe armpits - and decided my food is nicer, and I smell better too.

I'm amazed that I've only had one mozzie bite since getting here.  It seems to be Chris's turn to be the sacraficial anode and you could play dot-to-dot on his ankles.  We've had no offers on the kidneys yet, but I'd like to add Chris's brain to the auction too.  I'm not bothered how much I get for it but it's the only way I can think to stop him trouncing me at Trivial Pursuit.
