Position: 40:03.04N 004:08.33E - Fornells,
Menorca
After the last
time we beat into a directly-on-the-nose wind we vowed, "Never again." So
how come that's what we were doing yesterday in forecast 20 plus knots of
wind? Well, we were seeking civilisation and a mobile signal, and after so
many days of perfect sailing conditions you tend to forget the bad
bits, don't you? But, it wasn't too bad and was good practice for
when things unexpectedly get a bit rough. Just glad mum wasn't on
board. Although it wasn't a particularly enjoyable few hours we
got to where we want to be. It wasn't too horrible as we handled the
boat well, which made me realise how far we've come in terms of sailing
experience; For me as a novice, for Chris and I as a team, and for us both
getting to know DecaDance.
So we're in
Fornells, at the wrong side of the inlet for the town but a sensible choice
for the best shelter from last night's forecast winds (which didn't
materialise - doh!). I've said that I'm going nowhere until I've got
the rest of the website sorted and other chores out of the way, but we seem to
have mobile broadband here but no mobile phone connection. We've been busy
today catching up with cleaning, washing and websiting, and we've tried out a
new way of lowering Tiny Dancer's engine into postition, which is much easier -
yet more progress in our life as liveaboards.
Tomorrow we'll
wait until midday-ish when everyone is out sailing and then go and nick a
good anchor spot nearer the town. Steve Redgrave would have a
job rowing Tiny Dancer from here, and although her engine has escaped
relatively unscathed all things considered, without a cowling we wouldn't
want to risk heading so far for an evening meal. So I must leave
you now to find out what's in our freezer. Looks like I'm cooking
again...
