Position: 40:02.97N 003:54.94E - Cala Fontanells,
original plan was to head to the South coast of Menorca, a mere 20nM
hop. We got there earlier than planned which was a bit of a miracle as
Chris had designated me as skipper. In fact, it's a miracle we got there
at all. There was a swell from the South so we headed around the West
coast looking for shelter. Many of the anchorages on our E80 (electronic
chart) were too small for DecaDance - some even for Tiny Dancer - so we
continued round the island, admiring the high cliffs and rock formations
looking for a suitable bay. There were plenty of places we could have
anchored, all alone with a backdrop of cliffs and caves but we haven't set foot
on dry land for some time so we were looking for a bit of civilisation (and a
mobile broadband signal). Cala Fontanells is packed with boats of all
shapes and sizes but we've found a quiet spot at the far end of the bay.
crowds there's nothing on shore apart from lots of white sand - no
houses, hotels or restaurants - so Tiny Dancer remains on the coachroof (her new
home, she has a naughty habit of grabbing genoa sheets on the foredeck).
Chris says he prefers eating on board, but then again he would, he's not the one
doing the cooking. So two tired sailors sat down last night to chicken
fajitas, surrounded by beaches and craggy rocks and
the occasional shrill and shadow of fleeting bats.
