Only sailors
(hello Jean!) understand the pleasure of the perfect beam reach (6-7
knots of boat speed in 9-10 knots of wind on a not far from even keel) that we
had for a full day yesterday on our transit from Ibiza to Mallorca. We
anchored overnight at the Eastern end of Palma Bay where we had a great view of
the lightening flashing just behind the capital.
It was forecast for rain all day today,
and for once the forecast was accurate. No problem though - Chris
wanted to give the sails a bit of a clean so we headed out mid-morning. It
was wet but not cold and the couple of tacks we needed to get around the
Southern headland was enough to soak both sides of the sails. Bearing in
mind Chris's cleaning OCD (which I'm not complaining about - our boat
is always pristine and the teak decks look better now than when the boat
was handed over) I'm surprised he didn't get me to hoist him up the mast with
a brush and detergent.
Puerto Petro is
very picturesque. Not that I've seen much of it as I was cooking
dinner. Thanks Ainsley Harriot (never thought I'd utter those words) for
your Wild Mushroom Cup-a-Soups (handy under-way fodder) which make a useful base
for an impromptu mushroom sauce for pork medallions. We're gently bobbing
in one of the coves here contemplating whether you're better off being in one of
the fabulous luxury villas to our left, or one of the holiday apartments to our
right - low rise, probably expensive, but not so pretty. Who's got the
better view? And who's paying a lot less for it?!
