Position: 39:00.54N 001:17.79E - Cala
Salada, Ibiza
Last time Mum sailed on DecaDance she
was juggling the fruit bowl in thirty-odd knots of wind with DecaDance reaching
record speeds with two reefs in. Fortunately, it was a more sedate affair
for the birthday girl yesterday. Lightish winds behind us meant a
pleasant journey with the sails goose-winged. San Antonio looked
awful and the anchorage was too busy so we forgot about provisioning and moved
on to Cala Salada, a small cove with just a single restaurant on the
beach. Chris did his usual quick recce ashore and booked a table for
us. A fabulous meal, followed by a rather unusual calypso coffee for mum
and then drinks in the cockpit. One of the best birthdays ever according
to Mum.
Unfortunately, it was a bit of a bad day
for toes. I stubbed one of mine on the bathing platform in the morning and
watched it gradually turn the same purple as my nail-varnish by the end
of the day. Chris kicked the same genoa car three times, and on the
third attempt split the skin open between two toes - blood all over his pristine
teak decks. So the crew are hobbling around today. Glasses aren't
faring much better - Chris stood on his prescription sunglasses a couple of days
ago and last night broke his glasses. Talk about accident prone!
Mum's okay apart from the obligatory mozzie bites, she forgot to put her net up
last night.
We're off for a
quick swim and then heading further round the island to find another pretty
little cove.
