Position: 40:03.04N 004:08.33E - Fornells,
Menorca
We decided to sit
out the nasty Northerlies here in Fornells and moved across to the other side of
the inlet where we found decent shelter. We're always saying how
quickly time goes on board, but the last two days have really dragged. At
least our anchor didn't. Some did though. Chris has always said that
a dragging anchor doesn't happen as quickly as you may think, and he was
right. I'd imagined the anchor losing its hold and the boat whizzing
through the water, but in reality it's the weight of the metres of chain on the
seabed that also helps keep the boat stationary and I've now seen a couple of
times how slowly that all drags. You'd probably have time to make a cup of
tea before moving too far. Not that you would of course, and especially
not now our stocks of Tetley tea-bags have hit level-switch-low-low.
We've whiled the
time away doing crossword puzzles, a huge jigsaw, dancing to Michael Buble in
the saloon, and spying on people on yachts and goats on the shore
through the binoculars. The winds abated enough yesterday afternoon to
move back across near the town where we were grateful to get off the boat and
find other human beings, but alas no WiFi (our mobile
dongle's playing up). After two nights of anchor watch and the howling
winds keeping us awake when it wasn't our turn, we slept well last night and
it's nearly afternoon already.
Happy Birthday
and lots of love to my Aunty Christine. We can't wait to meet up with you
all in Alcudia. Not long now...
