Still here. The weather is variable and pretty English! We hired a car to drive
around the island, and it is very pretty, covered with flowers as its name
suggests. The hillsides are a mass of blue hydrangeas with pink roses
intertwined and vivid red and yellow canna lilies are scattered around. The
walls dividing the fields and the edges of the roads are a either dry stone walls or hedges of blue
hydrangeas. There are some deep crater lakes, with very steep sides in the middle of the island, and covered in mist, due to the low cloud cover. The fields are full of meadow flowers, with big Friesian cows and lots of beautifully kept plots growing all sorts of
vegetables - it could not be more different to the Caribbean if it tried - a
real culture shock!
We will be off to Horta in a day or two.
