So, here we are back in English Harbour, tied stern-to on the wall by the bar. After Barbuda, we came back here, to the fun of Antigua Racing week, very busy and loads of people and boats around. In fact, we anchored then, and socialised with other ARC boats, tidied the boat and then John's brother Nigel, with Ann and Ginnie came out.
For the first few days, we hired a car and saw parts of Antigua we had not seen before, such as Devil's Bridge and did shopping etc. John and I went out on the ABSAR rib one day, to get a good view of the racing boats, particularly the big ones. Then for Ginnie's birthday we went on a helicopter trip to Montserrat. This was amazing, never having been in a helicopter before - a great experience, but also quite poignant seeing the deserted towns and airport. It was a very clear day, and we got good views of the volcano which had caused such devastation.
Of course, we had to do Shirley Heights, just to check it was still up to standard and see the sunset over English Harbour, perhaps one of the most common sights to see.
Then off we set for a bit of gentle sailing, round to Indian Creek, overlooked by Eric Clapton's house, sadly not at home. Then into Nonsuch Bay where we anchored at the back of the reef. It looked as if we were anchored in the middle of the sea but in fact were well protected by the reef. Then back here, and they left this morning.
And that's that so far. As anybody who reads these has noticed, it was not possible to do all this in one day, as the date would suggest, but at least we have now caught up. The next step is to finalise our plans, and enjoy the last few weeks of my gap year.
