we hired a car and set off to explore. Here are some of the sights we saw from the car. You will notice many horses are used, as well as many bikes . Hitch hiking is common and expected that you pick people up if you have space.

The first town we visited was Bayamo, which was a lovely place and we found a great Casa Particulares which are basically B & Bs. The room rate is just $25 per night and breakfast is another $3/4.
The first one was run by Arturo and his wife. He used to be a government lawyer and wasnt making enough money so applied to do the B & B and makes much more now. He could speak English well but his wife only a few words. The room was comfortable and clean and we unpacked our things and set off to explore with Arturo fixing a dinner for us at 6.30. The meal was magnificent with salad and lamb and vegetable, we could not eat it all.

The lady who helped Arturo cook our food. She is a school teacher during the day and it is common for people to have 2 jobs.

some pictures of the house. It is modest by our standards but these are the better off cubans and they live a very good life in comparison with some,
