Awoke to yet another bright sunny morning. We had a quick breakfast and then cast off leaving the marina at 09:20hrs and chugged at a stately 6 knots up the River Soane arriving at the town quay of Verdun sur le Doubs at 12:30hrs. When we arrived the Capitainerie was just off for his lunch, but he stayed and helped us moor stern-to, before excusing himself. We sat and had lunch in the cockpit and remarked how empty the quay was. That did it, by the time we returned from our after-lunch perambulation round the village, the quay had started to fill up, mainly with bumper boats (hire boats that bump into everything) It was still very hot so we decided to treat ourselves to an ice cream in the cafà part of the Capitainerium ? ( Is there such a word? Where the Capitainerie has his office). What a rip off three small balls of ice cream cost us 5.25 Euros!!! We then went and sat in the cockpit and watched the entertainment and listened to the Capitainerie shouting instructions to helmsmen (and women) as to how to reverse their charges. By dinner time the quay was full up. I think it is going to be a noisy night what with a huge flock of Crows nesting in the trees opposite and arguing the toss about whose branch it was and a very young baby in the boat moored next to us. We will see. One good thing about this location is that it has a free WiFi. We made the most of it and spoke on Skype to our Son Richard in China and a friend who is in Afghanistan.
