After a late breakfast (I overslept) we walked up to the local railway station in the already blistering heat and caught the train to Fountainbleau Avon station, then the bus to the huge chateau. It really is on a huge and magnificent scale. The gardens are on a vast scale with hundreds and hundreds of tightly trimmed conifer trees, ponds and even a small “Grand canal”. The state apartments are really well furnished and lavishly decorated and well presented. Another nice thing to note was that there was no restriction on the taking of photographs (even with flash!) Michael had an argument over the cost of using the public loo (THREE EUROS for a Pee!!!) You can guess who won that! A good day out and thoroughly recommended, apart from the in-conveniences. We returned to the boat footsore and weary, played cards and turned in early.
