Left Southsea Marina 2100hrs on Sunday 9th May 2010 with a crew consisting of Maureen, her Brother-in –law, Ronald and skipper Michael. As we left the forecast was ideal with a north easterly force 3 gusting force 5 and moderate seas. So it was for the first 4 hours and the boat was skimming along at a healthy 6 knots, but then the wind strength increased to 6 gusting 7 and veered round to South east causing the sea to pick up so that the boat was corkscrewing around with waves continually breaking over the bow. Poor Ron, an inexperienced sailor put up with it for half an hour but then he gave a good impression of a man trying to turn himself inside out. There was nothing else for it but to turn round before he became totally dehydrated. We arrived back at our starting point at 06:00hrs. Ho hum we must re-plan for a new crew and new start date.
