Alas this passage is turning into a
rather unpleasant, but in no way dangerous, slog. Always to windward,
always with a knot or more of current either across us or against us. The
latter is not supposed to happen. What b***s those
pilot books talk. The good news is that sun is
shining, the wind is down to manageable levels and the end is in sight.
Bermuda is 210 miles away and we should get in during Monday night.
Yesterday we found that the bilge pump was going
off rather often and after a lot of floor board removing etc. we think that the
culprit is a badly leaking hawse pipe. I did stuff it with rags as usual
before we set off however these are not working and the item itself is
inaccessible under the tightly lashed dinghy on the foredeck. The result
is water in all sorts of places on the downhill, port side of the boat.
Order will be restored when we are in port. One would think that after all
these miles we would have such things sorted. Well sailing is just like
flying. When you think you know it all something comes along and kicks you
hard.
So enough of typing with the whole keyboard
moving.
Happy times
