Antigua - A walk to Fort Berkley

Nimue
Tue 8 Mar 2011 15:44
As Nimue was anchored just off Fort Berkley at the western entrance of English Harbour, we took a walk on the well trodden footbath from the Dockyard to see the small fort.  The short 20 minute walk took us along the coastline and every so often we were met by wild goats,  who naturally seemed quite anxious being around Stormy the Sea dog.  She seemed oblivious to their wariness and was just happy to be off the leash and able to have a good run around (she’s very quick and runs like a greyhound).

On arrival we found intact walls, a powder magazine, a small guardhouse and a solitary cannon, the last of 25 cannons that once line the fortress walls.  A fine few of the harbour and of course Nimue at anchor.
