Ascension is a base for the RAF and USAF with only 700 – 800 people living on the island. The island is quite interesting with lovely clear blue waters and white beaches with the green mountain reserve in the centre.  The main town – George Town has only a few small shops, post office, 8 – 5 police station and 3 pubs. On Sunday the French 3 mast schooner “La Boudeuse” invited us onboard for dinner. The captain lost their kitty in St. Helena and a very honest Saint found it and we were asked to deliver it to them because they had already left. Dinner was in true French style with loads of  food, wine and chit chat.  Getting from the yacht via our rubber duck to the landing steps at Ascension makes W/Bay look good on a bad day. No matter how hard you try - You are going to arrive soaked to the bone. The only difference here is the water is warm. Last night we went to see the giant green turtles laying their eggs and saw some hatchling making their way to ocean, from there they will begin their long swim to Brazil.  Like us, next stop BRAZIL!!! As we leave Ascension the wind is quite strong and sea "lumpy" so only sailing with the Genoa and still cruising at 6.5Kn. Wind SE5, Swell 3M, Log 2442Nm, Bar 1009
