Ascension Island

We were welcomed into Ascension with a huge
school of beautiful dolphins. They swam alongside us and put on a
splendid show for us. As a
bonus we caught our first Yellow Fin Tuna coming into Clarence Bay, a good 25-30
kg one. We ate like kings!!! We finally got to eat sashimi that we’ve been drooling about
since leaving Cape Town, as well as juicy tuna steaks braaied on the Cobb. We
have enough fish to feed us all the way to Brazil. We arrived just after 6pm and
stayed on board, we will explore tomorrow. The baby turtles that Ascension
Island is famous for, many came swimming by the boat at
night. The water is absolutely amazing, crystal clear
and warm. A swim was in order to refresh us after a few too many drinks
last night (ps @ anchor). We went to shore after 2pm and it was like a
ghost town, everything was shut and hardly anyone about so we cannot clear in
until Monday morning. We
planned to have a night on the town tonight but our dinghy was giving some
problems so we decided to stay on board. The temperature is rising as we close
in to the equator. We are now above 8 degrees South and are next stop will be at
3 degrees below equator – So loads of sunscreen!!! |
