The wind has gradually dropped over the past few days. We are now
trying to make the best of 3-6 knts of variable winds, managing to make 2–3 knts
over the ground in roughly the right direction. We will put the engine on
if we are totally becalmed for a long time but we only have a limited amount of
fuel which restricts our engine use. With no deadline to make the Azores,
other than our food running out, we are happy to just keep ticking along slowly
and enjoy the flat seas.
The upside is we are able to get on with jobs. I’m trying find a very
elusive leak from the heads but the rather unpleasant odour of this job is
currently being masked by the mouth watering smell of Chris baking bread and
rolls. Just about any food tastes good at sea but there is little that can
beat freshly baked bread.
The sextant has also been dusted off:
Chris taking a noon sight – bringing the sun down to the horizon.
