Hi reader
Well, I can confirm that Spain closes on a Sunday night
so Tim and I ate on the boat after a couple of beers in town. Tim flew
home this morning after pushing me off the marina berth into the early dawn
light so now it's just me and I'm going to have to put his theories on cat
napping to the test. He also had to do some explaining at the airport (and again
on the plane) about why there's no entry stamp in his passport. Thanks for
getting me here Tim!
And now we have perfect sailing weather. I've been
on deck endlessly tinkering to get the right set-up as we (me
and Fettler !) are running downwind in a force 5 with a big swell running
which is hitting the quarter. The windvane usually likes to be pulled
by a headsail so I hove to, dropped the main and rigged everything. We
were then all over the place and after trying all sorts of things we are now
sailing with a double reefed main and about half the genoa which is pretty
much what I started with . I'm heading south of the direct course for the
Azores because there is more wind and for longer in this weather pattern to the
south and also because there is a traffic separation scheme off the cost of Cape
Finistere and I dont want the faff of having to cross it at right angles because
it's 20 miles wide and full of ships.
For the non sailors - It's a beautiful day with a clear, blue sky and the sea is also a deep blue with the Spanish coast about 10 miles off - picture postcard stuff. I will be getting away from that and into the big blue bit when I can duck under the TSS which I think will be about 8pm. Then 20 miles of ships before it gets peaceful. If you want to message me (and you can imagine how much
I bore myself with my own chat, so all comments are welcome) then the phone is
on for texts (these are free to send) from 4pm - 7pm UK time. Google
"messaging iridium.com" for the site to send texts from) and my satphone number
is 881631635945.
Hope those that I sent it on to liked the movie of Tim
"nearly" catching his tuna. I'll put a still picture of it on when I next
get to wifi (I'm way to tight to upload photo's over an iridium link - that
could make you poor very quickly!).
Frank - happy that you share the blog link with whoever you like. Tim and I met Ed and Sue on Locomotion which is a Marconi boat when in Dover Jez
