The crews of Chaser and Waylander
rose early to be at the front of the assumed queue for diesel at the fuel dock
in Cumana. As it turned out, there wasn't a queue and we filled our tanks,
petrol and diesel by 0800hrs. Our total bill for the fillup for the two boats
which included 610 litres of diesel and 30 litres of petrol was 31,500
Bolivar's, that is just over 5 euros or 3 pounds 50 pence.
We both departed Cumana under motor in calm winds
and seas for Puerto De La Cruz (PLC). Strangely the coastline was under a little
mist and haze, but even so we could se the area was certainly worth exploring at
a later date. Consequently not too many photos this time, but we arrived safely
in PLC. It is a big city and our slip here in CMO marina has a nice feel and
views out over our bow.
Tropical storm Felix has appeared just south of
Grenada moving WNW, it won't affect us though we may get a surge or a bit of
wind and rain. That will pass during the next few hours, but there is no
sign of anything nasty at the moment, though we did put a few extra
lines out last night, just in case. It is strengthening all the time and will
become a Cat 3 Hurricane in the next few days, somewhere off of
Jamaica.
We may checkout downtown PLC today, and get some
info on inland tours or bus rides to the Orinoco Delta, Angel Falls and the
Andes.
Venezuela is a big country, there is a lot to see
on land and by sea, with more stunning offshore islands only a daysail away, we
may be here a while. Cartegena for Christmas, maybe not. We'll let you know on
that one.
