10th June
Arrived St Mary's on the scilly isles on sunday 10th june.Good sail from dartmouth. 135 miles in 28 hours.
Pam was in the sick bay with a nasty cold on top of her shingles so we adopted a 2 man, 4 hour shift.
The weather was excellent with blue skies and scattered clouds. this is indeed an idylic place.
motored to New grimsby sound next day and anchored off Tresco and Brymer.
Next day we left for St martins just 5 miles away but a tricky entrance between rocks.
Transits and eyeball navigation is the keyword here!.
St Martins is my favourite island and wednesday the 13th was an absolute beauty with blue skies and emerald blue seas.
We should have left for Ireland on wednesday but after much sole searching decided that 24 hours of motoring into a NW wind predicted we are staying until the present low depresion has passed over and crossing the UK!
Thursday 14th June.
Its ten am and the winds are gusting 49 knots.I am so glad we didnt attempt to sail to Ireland and are moored up on a bouy. We are going to set off at high tide to return to St marys which is the main port with plenty of mooring bouys and hopefully less exposed as the weather forecast is for stronger winds to come.
Everyone has presented their passage plan back to St marys as we have to thread our way through some narrow gaps.
Last night Andy, pam  and frank overstayed their visit to the hotel bar at St martins hotel.
Dave and myself chuckled as we saw the jetty boatslip disappear under water with te dinghy attached. I decided to telephone the hotel to raise the alarm and low and behold the tree of them came scampering down the slipway to retrieve the dinghy! luckerly it was only a knee high paddle to reach the mooring line.
So hopefully by Saturday evening we will be able to set sail for Ireland after this howler has passed through.
all the best
Brian

6th June
Left Honfluer 10.30am Wednesday to sail to dartmouth 165 miles away. There is a rather nasty blow forcasted for late wednesday night so we have 36 hours to get to dartmouth. Good Swesterlies get us off to a excellent start start and our planned arrival just north of Cherbourg to pick up the favourable tides are scuppered! we arrive in 9 hours and have 3 hours of strong tide against us as well as an unfavourable wind. Andy shouts out we are going backwards so we head North to get some boat movement.
The tide turns and off we go again with a more southerly wind. By 3pm the wind has increased to 30+ knots and we are bombing along with the speed showing 10.6knots. Frank and my shift sees a distance of 18 miles in two hours. A record for Dances.
Of course fate soon has its turn and Kate shouts up that the rough waves are banging the anchor against the Bow and water is streaming through the chain locker into the cabin. I said not too worry as this is a common problem in rough weather. However to put her mind to rest i strapped on and proceeded up to the Bow to inspect the anchor. I couldnt see any damage and everything was secure but i found out later that kate thought i was going to be swept over board and it would be all her fault. Bless her.
32 hours after leaving Honfluer we arrived just outside of dartmouth with 34 knots of wind so we were glad to be rriving ahead of the really strong winds.
Looks like we will be hole up in Dartmouth for friday and saturday.
