15939 distance covered 213 (174 true) miles
Still speeding along on a reach with a
northerly wind that was F5 but is now dropping so the sea is calming down a
bit as well. We can sense land approaching as we are about 60 miles
off Cabo de Sao Vicente ( the SW corner of Portugal) but there is no feel of it
in the day which remains grey and cold.
Two encounters in the night were 'interesting' -
the first with an enormous line of phosphorescence lying across our path
which I was hesitant to cross, was it the wake behind a whale, a trawler net on
an invisible trawler or even a submarine? We crossed it with no trouble
and probably it was just an algal bloom. The second was an encounter with
a ship who seemed determined to get in our way, avoidance measures were taken
and we escaped...
Looking forward to landfall, a shower and removing
a large amount of facial hair maybe only after presenting it at
home!
