Saturday 8 August - somewhere in the Bay of Biscay; we have just had the pleasure and priviledge of the company of porpoises (or maybe little dolphins) swimming alongside. I just caught a couple on the attached photo - if anyone can identify these sociable little creatures we'd love to know who was keeping us company?

Magical day, blue skies, calm blue sea, a fair north westerly wind blowing us at around 10 knots towards our first Paella. We left behind the port of Joinville at 8am this morning; first in last out as the great tangle of boats in the basin peeled off at high tide. Yesterday was A Grand Day Out in Ile d'Yeu, we had the engine serviced, enjoyed the bustle and commotion of this thriving and gritty port and ate our cholesterol "5 a day" in moules and crepes for dinner. Next stop Spain. Apparently there are just crocodile infested marshes along the rest of the Atlantic coast of France so not worth delaying our Biscay crossing for that, oh and also no-one wants to sail into the corner where France and Spain join, sounds like that's the bit where the dust collects. So our course is set to point out into the wide blue yonder towards North West Spain and the port of Vivero. We'll be off the continental shelf in about an hour so I suppose there's no chance of anchoring at bedtime and very soon we'll be the furthest west and the furthest south we've ever been. Now we're really sailing,

ps: Immy has a wobbly tooth that threatens to fall out before we make landfall tomorrow evening so we're all wondering if the Tooth Fairy works offshore. If she can fly as fast as the porposise can swim then she'll catch us up with great ease;  and we all know what a resourceful lady she is, taught all she knows to Father Christmas!
