Camaret

Saturday 1 August - Camaret is a very pretty place to stop over even though it was another grey, wet day. We've seen the headlines and heard reports from home so we don't feel worried that summer is happening somewhere else. Laurence wants to go fishing; shoals of fish were quite literally jumping out of the water as we arrived in Camaret and there is the promise of a fine catch. Hugo wants to go swimming and Immy boldly announced that she would like to go out to restaurant for a snail followed by ice cream. There are many restaurants along the quayside, all very jolly and bustling with trade; plenty of cameraderie in Camaret! Immy did, however, moderate her ambitions for lunch by the time it came to order, the snail turned into fish & chips (although she went all native with mousee au chocolate for pud).

The skies brightened later so Alex and Laurence set off in the dinghy for a fishing expedition and the rest of us pottered off to the beach. Alas the fishing party returned empty handed but Laurence announced the expedition to be a success over all because it had been a good father/son sort of thing to do! Back aboard Tilly Mint the fishing continued and I am pleased to report success:- 3 baby mullet, a shrimp and a starfish - nothing very edible but a catch is catch. Immy wanted to keep the starfish as a pet, you can imagine how that debate ended...

If you are wondering about the wedding photo - so are we. It looked like a real couple - there was love in the air, but I did wonder about the hike down onto the pebbles in a long frock - looked perilous to me.

A quiet evening and a bit of ship-shaping later and we are all set to depart at 5am the next morning for our first leg across Biscay, a good day sail to Belle Ile.
