Moore or less

Having arrived El Puerto de Santa Maria (across the bay from Cadiz) we had
two key trips pencilled in - Cadiz and Seville the latter being a 1 hour
train journey. Plan for Wed 28th was Seville (for at least half the crew)
and a very early start but the wine on Tues night was particularly good and
so reasonably priced, net result we had a late start and all went to Cadiz
which was only a short ferry ride away.
A great experience and surprise awaits anyone who visits Cadiz, its full of
history going back to 1000BC, with particularly vibrant and well preserved
medieval and 17/18th century trading quarters. Put it on your list for a
long weekend city break you will not be disappointed.
Highlight is a multitude of old narrow streets all lit with classic Cadiz
lanterns and lined with excellent Tapas Bars.
The culture element was further enhanced with a Henry Moore exhibition, a
Two Piece "Reclining Figure" from 1960 proved popular with the crowds but to
be honest we just didn't get it! Words like "Moore took full advantage of
the two-piece composition for the exploration of the relationship of figure
and landscape; abandoning the expectation of naturalistic representation of
the human body" Tom simply gave up and sat down on the Cathedral steps
looking for divine guidance, I had to go for a beer to reflect on the
helpful description and even Peds who has an open creative mind could do
nothing more than scratch his head.
Early night tonight off to Seville tomorrow.
Bye for now
Ian.
