Departed Sines at 0700 on 22.9.16 bound for Portimao (had planned on Lagos
but the marina was full), passed some fantastic coastline not unlike
England's Jurassic Coast and rounded Cabo de Sao Vicente with its
magnificent Light House to enter the Algarve. We had our best sail yet from
the lighthouse to Portimao, touching 10 knots in glorious sunshine and
relatively flat seas. Liz had some very good helming tuition from Dave and
the photo suggests she even enjoyed it!
Arrived at Marina reception just as Alex Thompson was moving his new IMOCA
60 racing yacht (sponsored by Hugo Boss) down the opposite jetty. As well
as preparing his new boat for the IMOCA Ocean Master Series of races, the
team wants to be the first British team to win the Vendee Globe.
Tom knows Portimao like the back of his hand having spent 7 weeks here on
his last sailing job so lunch yesterday (23.9.16) was a little back street
fish restaurant often frequented by Tom in the past. The food was stunning,
without exception, 3 soles and 2 sea bass, salad, new potatoes and loads of
garlic..thank you Chef!
The trip to the restaurant also gave us an opportunity to test the new
tender and engine, had to take it easy because it still needs running in but
we are sure it's going to be great fun.
Had a day of painting and routine repairs today so now off for a few scoops
and a meal.
Bye for now Ian
