13:00.48N 061:14.44W Hello Patrick, Isabella and Silas!
As dusk fell yesterday evening we
heard the broken exhaust of Lecky’s taxi straining towards Gingerbread.
Peering down from the balcony bar we could see the weary travellers bouncing
along the dusty road on the makeshift benches of the converted, open-top Datsun.
With Silas asleep in Patrick’s arms and Bella lolling next to him, I
guess the excitement of the long day from London, via Barbados to the tiny 7
sq. mile island of Bequia was just too much. African was waiting to ferry
them to Oboe and with a sweep of his big arms and a smile at least as big he
carried the children onto his pirogue, threw in the luggage and sped
away. It was a picture the see the wonder on the children’s faces
as they climbed down into Oboe’s interior and adopted the big forepeak cabin
as their own, to be shared only by an equally weary Pooh Bear, who seemed to be
in need of some bread and honey! Sleep came easily and daddy
Patrick joined Ryan and me in the cockpit for a well-earned supper of quesadillas.
Before long, he too found it all too much and slipped away to the land of nod. This morning was an entirely
different matter. Still on UK time it was all go at 0400 hours!
Togged up in yellow life jackets, sporting masks and snorkels, the water beckoned
and off the swimming platform they jumped. Si is now known as Bob, as
that is what he does in the water. As yet Bella has not been given a
nickname, so watch this space! Both are delightful children and welcome
guests of Oboe and her crew. They have already adopted Ryan as the big
brother and are especially impressed with his dinghy driving abilities. The wind is very strong so we
are not planning to sail today, preferring to explore the local beaches, relax
and acclimatise. Happiness is warm, turquoise
water. (Footnote: If you receive this
