The first seven days of our journey we have been travelling through the
Tropical Convergence Zone which is an area of confused seas and variable
winds. We have experienced heavy rainfall, winds swinging through 360
degrees and even windless days with flat seas. We had to decide how much
diesel we should use motoring to get out of these weather conditions. Today
we have been achieving 8 knots in a steady wind and we are hoping that we
are out of the zone and now in the trade winds. At last we feel wenare making
progress towad the Marquesas Islands.
