We motor sailed out of Singapore threading our way through more anchored empty boats than any of us have ever seen.
The water is dirty and full of rubbish. We manage to pick up an old fishing net around the prop and David dived under the
boat with a knife between his teeth and cut it off. (Now you know why he is called Rambo!!)
We motored on through the night just on the edge of the shipping lanes so within 100 yards of us were a long line of huge
ships some 1000 ft long making their way north. We did this to stay away from the unlit fishing boats/nets/fish traps that
exist close inshore also by being on the edge of the shipping lanes we know where the big ships are!!
There were hundreds of fishing boats and ships that we had to dodge in the 2 nights and also during the day. It is amazing
that there are any fish left in the sea! One guy laid his net right across out bow causing us to swerve violently!! On the
whole however they are worried about their nets and steer clear of us.
Klang is the major port of Malaysia and 20 miles from Kuala Lumpur the capital. It is an extraordinarily scruffy place with
the water full of rubbish which collects alongside the boats forming rafts between them. We had to get a water Taxi to get to
and from the club house and on the last night it got a curtain caught round its prop at 11 at night and we were adrift in
this filthy river!! David and Mike eventually got it off after half an hour and we made it to Moonshadow at last!!(See what I
mean!)This river is so dirty that by emptying our holding tanks we are improving the water quality!!
We went into KL by train and found it to be a lovely city. We tried to go up the twin towers but they were closed so went up
the communications tower instead and had a fantastic view of the city. We also took a tour bus around the city. Bought
loads of DVDs in the market and had a really good and cheap meal in China town. The train on the way back about 9
o'clock was packed and as we jumped into several carriages we realized that they were women only, so we had to jump out
Quick!!
The next leg is to Langkawi, the last leg of this voyage of over 5000 miles from Cairns to Langkawi where David is very
much looking forward to his wife Yvonne joining us for 3 weeks.
