The four wildly handsome crew of Moonshadow departed Cairns on Saturday, 18 September at 9 AM headed for Port Douglas. After an arduous journey (not really - we went inside the Great Barrier reef where conditions were very tame - 1 meter seas and 20 knots of breeze) of 7 hours, we tied up the boat in Port Douglas. We will head off for Hope Island tomorrow on a nice 40-mile sail. Then it's off to Lizard Island the next day. The UV is extreme all week - we all got some color today!

We repaired the heads on the boat while in Cairns, ran new discharge hoses and bent on main and headsails. Cairns is a very lovely city and has ample resources for boaters. The shoreside restaurant, "Salt House" was extraordinary in quality for dinner, lunch and breakfasts. We were sad to leave for that reason. We will try to update the blog with the satellite link in the next several days, so we may not include photos.

All is in order on the boat - we will sail early in the morning to arrive at Hope Island with the sun high enough to allow us to see reefs that might be troublesome.
