The first 200 miles
We eventually left Opua at midday yesterday after clearing customs and filling up with diesel. We sailed through the Bay of Islands eating soup and sandwiches and motor sailed into the Pacific. After some fun and games we managed to get our bright pink cruising shute up and enjoyed an action packed few hours. An uneventful night and only saw a few fishing boats and the lighthouse marking the most northern point of NZ
Today the sunshine was very welcome but the swell is rather uncomfortable and we have light variable wimds from every direction. We were visited by dolphins and a cheeky"swift" which landed on the rail for a while, she has now as it has got dark made herself comfortable on a cushion in the cockpit.
We are 200 miles into our 800 mil passage.
