We arrived on the idyllic island of Huahini on the 7th of May after an overnight passage from Moorea. Once through the pass we were able to follow the protected channel inside the reef, which was fortunately well marked as it was very shallow in places, to the wonderful anchorage of Avea Bay. The local people were very welcoming. They live in simple open sided homes under the palm trees & perhaps because it was a holiday weekend spent time on the beach fishing or preparing coconut bark by washing it in the sea to make tapu cloth. In the evening their Tahitian music wafts across the water to us but when we listen more carefully we can hear that the tunes are fifties pop standards.
