Song of the day: "The Fear", by Lily
Allen
Day 6 - Today was our day to fix the big
headsail halyard which we broke 2 days ago. Unable to resolve the
problem yesterday due to really big seas making it dangerous to try to
climb the mast, today Mike was hauled back up the mast after we deemed
the climbing conditions to be "more favourable". This is actually
quite is quite ironic because he can't actually climb and was therefore
winched up the mast by Minkey like a sack of potatoes. However, it was
still quite hairy and the whole experience was quite gruelling for Mike (althoug
extremely entertaining for the rest of us). When we finally brought
him back onto the deck he was a shivering wreck so Minkey gave him a
lollipop and sent him to bed for a little while. More importantly, we have
managed to fix the problem and are back up to full speed again with our big
headsail restored.
Sailing conditions last night were again somewhat
varied and we all had to work hard. Jags and Ben both got the hardest
stints on watch in the small hours wen the squalls started to come in.
However, fuelled by Minkey's Thai Red Chicken Curry supper, they held their
spirits and were taken on a rather wet and wild sleigh ride as cold front passed
over Little Pea. The waves increased and winds raged over 30kts, yet still no
rain....
Most of today has been spent getting Little Pea
back in order after nearly a week of 4 guys living in close quarters at a
45 degree angle. Jags is becoming trigger happy with the anti-bac, Ben
has dried his shorts (as every pair are now wet), Minkey is tyding up and
Mike is still passed out. We are all celebrating a full week at sea
tomorrow with fresh T-shirts and a baby wipe bath.
Hooray....!
It has been commented on by one of our followers
that our auto-helm (Beryl) is female, and should she be trusted with driving.
The answer is yes, she's very good at it. But don't worry, she won't be docking
the yacht and she certainly isn't navigating. Please do keep the fan mail
coming to littlepeasailing {CHANGE TO AT} gmail {DOT} com it's
keeping our spirits up.
