Ten miles north of the Horn January 30th

Left Porto Toro quayside by Passage Gore. South across the Bahia Nassau. Force six beam gusting forties for a flyer, the water shallow by local standards at a few hundred feet, swell, wind and chop all confused.

Armada Navy patrol launch ship P1603 did a fly by to check all was well. On approach to Woolvaston island tourists took our photos. Eight of them all tucked up in their big red Bell popter CCCGM.

Wind fell away between the islands as we entered Bravo passage with a dozen dolphins in escourt, small derelict houses sat in the coves, we swung around a few miles of the channels to Herschel Island. Anchored Caleta Martial.  55.49.30S  67.17.90W

Anchor on a hundred meters of chain in six meters of water, long rope of the stern to the  wide soft yellow sand beach to be sure. Low river water stream and a giant King Penguine to great us. Low lying land all about, shallow tree line and then barren plain of lichen and bracken in full combat with the elements of the Cabo Horn.

Not ten miles north of Cape Horn.
