Fairway Faro Light house, entry to the Straights of Magellan.

Ropes onto the rocks in lee of the tiny island. Three giant digger tyres fendered us off. Up the hill to meet the Armada Keeper Pablo and his wife Cynthia. We were their first visitor ten months ago and likely their last as the year of duty was to end in ten days time.

 

A grand tour of the lighthouse, built 1920 it had two fine green Lister diesel generators. Eight banks of six volt Trojan batteries making twelve volt circuits. Another set of two volt four hundred and fifty amp gell batteries lay in the foot of the small tower for the light.

 

What a view was to be had. Mighty Pacific beyond and just a shadow of Australia in the distance not ten thousand miles away.
