Temperatures soar into the high 90s as we slog through our
first heatwave.
The swivel at the top of the jib was seized. We were able
to free it, but it still feels like it has rock in it and there doesn't seem to
be a way of lubricating it
We can solve the jib sail problems by going back to
conventional rigging, but we're not sure why the transmission is slipping. The
boat was lifted out of the water yesterday and all is sound below the waterline.
The prop was removed and reinstalled with no signs of fouling or
slippage.
It appears that the transmission oil gets too hot and then
it slips. Could it be that the new larger prop is too much torque for the
transmission causing the oil to overheat? We were able to find the
original prop and will discuss the next step with the professionals at the boat
yard.
We have many options at this point, but time is
breathing down our necks.
