S/V Galatea update

Hi all,

'Tis 04:30 Sunday. Another cloudy, overcast night as has been the case most nights since leaving Cape Town. We are 145 miles out from St. Helena, and after many hours of light winds the past couple of days, (thought we were supposed to be in the trades!!), we are now hairing along at 7.5/8 knots. Pretty typical - it seems that just as we draw close to our destination the winds always pick up, making for tricky planning of arrival time.

Currently, if these speeds hold, we will arrive at the Jamestown mooring field on the north west side of St Helena around mid-night, tonight. We will have to decide whether we stand off outside the moorings until daybreak, or use the light of the full moon to help guide us in to a mooring buoy. We will be tying up to a ball as anchoring is not possible - too deep and with rather active swell conditions.

Otherwise, things have been going smoothly. Crew and boat are well and looking forward to a few days exploring St Helena.

Next update after our arrival.

Neil, Chris and Kev.
